Study of a Newlyn Man attributed to Stanhope Alexander Forbes

We believe that the subject of this portrait is possibly 'Uncle William' Hichen, whom Forbes painted in 'Off to Skibbereen', 'The Seine Boat' and 'The 22 January 1901' (Reading the News of the Queen’s Death in a Cornish Cottage). We believe he might also be the subject of A Newlyn Fisherman by Elizabeth Forbes.

Oil on board, signed lower right, 40 x 51cms.

Presented in a period gilt frame.
